Christmas Concert 2015 with The Brighouse and Rastrick Band

The award-winning Brighouse and Rastrick Band join forces with the Society for a spectacular programme of seasonal favourites, breathtaking arrangements and festive carols.
In October, the Brighouse and Rastrick Band won top placed English Band in the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall and will now represent England at the European Brass Band Festival in Belgium in 2017 - they are already representing England at the 2016 European Brass Band Festival in Lille, France. With a huge range of emotional and musical depth, the Brighouse and Rastrick performances have been hailed as ‘amazing’. Judges at the national finals described their performance as 'a stunning performance exuding quality and musical splendour.'
The Royal Hall Christmas Concert with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band has gone on from strength to strength to become a firm favourite in Harrogate's Christmas calendar. This year, the band and singers will be drawing on some of the best of the brass band repertoire with Christmas arrangements by the late Goff Richards for band and choir, and spectacular seasonal favourites including the popular Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson and the Christmas Song arranged by Bill Geldard as well as Christmas carols to sing-along to. And they'll be taking us to the movies too, with John Williams’ famous Star Wars theme and the equally spectacular theme from The Polar Express.
Terry Harrison, who will be the narrator at the Royal Hall on December 19th, says, 'Audiences are in for a treat - England's top band, with their huge range of sound playing the best of brass music at the top of their game.'

Watch out for pirates when the world-famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band comes to town for the ever-popular Royal Hall Christmas Concerts - this year there's a musical twist when Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer meets up with the Pirates of Penzance in a musical medley for all the family!

Pictured are two members of the Society, Peter Haken and Charlotte Brown. Next year's major G&S production will be the Pirates of Penzance at the Harrogate Theatre in May, which is why one or two Pirate tunes, and one or two Pirates themselves, might make an appearance in the festive musical mix designed to put you firmly in the Christmas mood.

Cath Culligan, Chair of HGSS, said "We are delighted once again to welcome to Harrogate one of the greatest bands in the world of brass, the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, rightly famed for their sheer versatility, breathtaking musicianship and stunning arrangements. They have rightly been described “not just the ‘best in the world’ … but .. ‘out of this world ’” and audiences will have the opportunity to judge for themselves"

The Brighouse and Rastrick Band have been favourites at Christmas concerts for many years - in 1977 their rendition of the Floral Dance reached the number 2 spot in the Christmas single chart. These days the Floral Dance still makes a regular appearance as a rousing encore number - and who knows, it may do again this year!
